about

World's First EWI iPad Song

Until proven otherwise, I'm claiming the first song realized completely on the iPad with all leads performed using a wind controller. The name stems from the fact that all tracks were programmed and/or recorded in the NanoStudio app from Blip Interactive.

Technical details:
I did my usual practice of composing using Band-in-a-Box but then took the MIDI output, imported into NanoStudio, and started repurposing the "piano", "guitar", etc. tracks into what you now hear. The drum kit was mostly built using samples from SampleSwap.org that claim to originate from a Roland CR-78, although I also used some of the stock NS samples for the "bongo-esque" part in the beginning.

All the lead instruments (and one harmony part at the end) were done with the Eden synth, custom programmed to respond to breath control, and then recorded with the EWI. I experienced a number of frustations/limitations with this setup; you can read the details here if you're interested: jimhanksmusic.com/ipad.html#ewi_ns_midi
