Kids today. Those young whippersnappers don't know good music when they hear it. ;-) Just because music was written 100 years ago or even 400 years ago doesn't mean it can't speak to people today. There is a lot of good teaching and theology to be found in the hymnal (not to mention music lessons). I admire artists like Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, and others who aren't afraid to remake classic hymns with a modern twist, and this song is presented in that spirit. If you've heard the traditional version, this rendition might come as a shock, trading the upbeat tempo and galloping bass line for a more reflective mood. It uses the 1918 lyrics by Haldor Lillenas but completely replaces the melody and chord progression.
lyrics
Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Greater than all my sin;
How shall my tongue describe it,
Where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden,
Setting my spirit free;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.
Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Reaching to all the lost,
By it I have been pardoned,
Saved to the uttermost,
Chains have been torn asunder,
Giving me liberty;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.
Oh wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
It's deeper than the mighty rolling sea;
Higher than the mountain, sparkling like a fountain,
All sufficient grace for even me,
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame,
O magnify the precious name of Jesus,
Praise his name!
Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Reaching the most defiled,
By its transforming power,
Making him God’s dear child,
Purchasing peace and heaven,
For all eternity;
And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.
Oh wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
It's deeper than the mighty rolling sea;
Higher than the mountain, sparkling like a fountain,
All sufficient grace for even me,
Broader than the scope of my transgressions,
Greater far than all my sin and shame,
O magnify the precious name of Jesus,
Praise his name!
I like many styles of music but most of my own productions tend towards jazz with electronic elements. I play the Akai
EWI4000s electric wind instrument, ukuleles, guileles, NAF, whistle, recorders, harmonicas, and various software instruments on Windows and iOS....more
This may be "just a demo" but very nicely done. And the coolest part is that all the bass on this album is from the EWI's internal synth! Factory patch #1 at that. Wow. Jim Hanks
